Assist Professor Shaykh Dr. Ziyaad Mahomed

Assist Professor Shaykh Dr Ziyaad is a Shariah Advisor and an Islamic Capital Markets and Banking Consultant, involved in various sectors of the industry since 1998. He served as the National Marketing and Product Development Head for Albaraka Bank in South Africa between 2003 and 2006, developing products on both the financing and investment sides including banca-takaful, whilst coordinating for the second Shariah Compliant Unit Trust in South Africa. He presently also serves as Associate Dean of E-learning and Director of Executive Education at INCEIF.

He serves on a number of Shariah Boards including as Chairman of the Shariah Boards of
HSBC Amanah in Malaysia and Taj Bank in Nigeria and board member of the Bank of Maldives amongst others.

He is a registered Shariah Advisor at the Maldives Monetary Authority and Bank Negara Malaysia. He specializes in and lectures Masters and PhD students in Shariah Issues in Islamic Finance, Shariah Aspects (Usul ul Fiqh, Islamic law of transactions, Shariah governance), Islamic Capital Markets and Islamic Risk Management.

Dr Ziyaad has had the opportunity to gain experience in almost all sectors of Islamic finance including Sukuk, regulatory frameworks, takaful modelling, private equity fund structuring and risk management. His experience in Sukuk (he has approved and/or structured more than $5 billion of Sukuk) and his academic publications has made him a sought-after subject matter expert on the subject both from industry and academia.

Shaykh Ziyaat Isaacs

Shaykh Ziyaat Isaacs hails from Cape Town South Africa and has diverse experience abroad. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Islamic Finance with specialization in Capital Markets from Selangor International Islamic University College (KUIS) in Malaysia. He also holds a Master of Science Degree in Islamic Finance from the International Center of Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF) in Malaysia.

He was recruited by the International Shari’ah Research Academy for Islamic Finance (ISRA) in Malaysia as a Management Trainee, Research Officer and Associate Consultant with ISRA Consultancy Sdn Bhd after completing his initial Degree in Islamic Finance. He was involved in various research, advisory and consulting projects with both local and international clients.

Upon his return to South Africa, Shaykh Ziyaat founded I Consult Africa with the intention to serve the Islamic Finance market in Africa through connecting his global network and knowledge repositories in Islamic Finance.

In addition, he manages a property portfolio at ARP Property Developments based in Cape Town South Africa and has engaged in several small business advisory projects in this capacity.

Shaykh Ziyaat also serves as a Lecturer at the International Peace College of South Africa (IPSA) in Islamic Commercial Law and Islamic Finance and has several publications in Islamic Finance both locally and globally.



MS Omar & Associates is a niche market law firm based in Durban which was established in July 1983 and specializes in all aspects of Corporate and commercial law, Family Law, Trusts Law, Estate Planning, Litigation, Dispute Resolution, Labour Law, Conveyancing and Shariah law including Islamic Finance.

The Firm is Led by Shaykh Mahomed Shoaib Omar who brings a wealth of over 30 years
industry experience and has acted in several leading roles of Islamic Finance initiatives
globally from the legal perspective.

Shaykh Shoaib was involved as part of the Legal consultants in the structuring and
preparation of the Republic of South Africa’s debut USD denominate Sukuk in 2014. He
studied the authoritative works of fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence and Law), across the four
authoritative Sunni schools of fiqh, and has specialized in Fiqh Al Muqarin (comparative
analysis between Islamic and secular law), and the application of fiqh to contemporary
situations and Islamic commercial and financial transactions. He has been guided by his
revered teacher, the distinguished jurist, Mufti Taqi Usmani, over the years, in relation to
the solution of complex issues, in the field of Islamic Finance.

He completed his LLB at the University of Kwazulu/Natal in 1979 and studied Arabic and
Islamic Law under Mufti Taqi Usmani in 1982, who is one of the top Shari’ah Advisors in the
industry. He was also a student of Qadhi Mujahidul Islam, the founder of the Islamic Fiqh
Academy of India. In 1995, he was granted right of appearance in the High and
Constitutional courts of South Africa.

Sheikh Shoaib serves as a member of the Shari’ah Board of Albaraka Bank SA. He practices
as an attorney and has authored over ten books and numerous articles in Islamic Law and
Commerce. He has been with Bank of Maldives Islamic since January 2013 as a member and
the Chairman of the Shari’ah Advisory Committee.


Shaykh Dr. Said Mikaeel

Shaykh Dr. Said Mikaeel hails from Nigeria and is an Islamic Finance Researcher at the International Shari’ah Research Academy for Islamic Finance (ISRA) in Malaysia. 

He holds a Ph.D. in Islamic Finance, AIKOL, from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) as well as a Masters of Comparative Law (MCL) from the same school. He also holds a LLB (Shari’ah), Islamic University of Madinah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Shaykh has been teaching as a Lecturer at the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF) -The Global Islamic Finance University as well as a short stint as a Tutor in the Islamic Law Department, AIKOL, at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).

In addition, the Shaykh is currently the Chairman of AlBirr Cooperative, Investment and Credit Society (ACICS-Nigeria) and Partner in Muslim Scholarship Fund of Nigeria (MSFN-Nigeria).

The Shaykh has published and presented several academic work on Shari’ah and Islamic Finance with reputable publishers as well as in International conferences. He also served as an expert witness in a high profile Islamic Finance case in Malaysia in his capacity as a Consultant at ISRA Consultancy Sdn Bhd. He brings strong Shari’ah capacity and Islamic Finance expertise to our diverse team of experts.

Mufti Yousuf Sultan

Mufti Yousuf Sultan hails from Bangladesh and has diverse experience in Shari’ah and Tech consultancy, home and abroad. He is currently heading the Tech team at Ethis Ventures in Kuala Lumpur, where he oversees the development and research of Islamic Crowdfunding platforms.

He holds a MSc in Islamic Finance degree from INCEIF, Malaysia. Currently he’s a PhD candidate at the same institution. He sits in the Shari’ah Supervisory Committee of Perfect Group – a promising non-banking Islamic Finance institution in Dhaka, where he provides training and consultation on Islamic Finance.

He graduated with the ‘Takmeel in uloom shar’iyyah’ and ‘Al-Takhassus fil Fiqh al-Islami’ degree from Jamia Shar’iyyah Malibag, Dhaka. He worked as Deputy Mufti in Jamiatul Asad al-Islamia Dhaka and Jamia Shariyyah Malibag – both are prominent Darul Ulooms in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

He has been a part time teacher at Islamic University of Technology (IUT) Dhaka, a subsidiary organ of OIC. Apart from the teaching profession, he frequently appeared as a speaker for live and recorded religious programs in various TV channels. Mufti Yousuf has long experience working with web servers, web application development, and e-commerce integration.

Mufti Muhammad Haffejee

Mufti Muhammad Haffejee haisl from South Africa where he currently serves the Jamiat Ulama South Africa with Fatawa and Lectures focused on Islamic Commercial Law. Mufti Muhammad also hosts Radio Islam International “At-Taajir Hour” which focuses on the South African economy, business ethics and consumer protection.

In addition, Mufti is a Shariah Advisor and Auditor to several local businesses in South Africa.

He holds Aalim Faadhil from the world-renowned seminary, Jamia Darul Uloom Karachi in Pakistan and is a student of Justice Taqi Uthmani. Together with this, he holds a BComm degree with specialization in Economics and Private Law as well as MSc Islamic Finance from INCEIF, Malaysia.

Zuhayr Dollie CA (SA), RA (SA), I.oDSA

Zuhayr is a Chartered Accountant, Life Coach,  and Entrepreneur with extensive experience in Business development, Management Consulting, Supply Chain Logistics,  as well as Business and Executive coaching. 

He is currently the sole Director of Thought Consulting Services (Pty) Ltd who provides management consulting services to the entrepreneurial and corporate market.  He served his articles at Nexia SAB& T, after which he spent 7 years at Engen Petroleum Limited serving roles in the Group Accounting and Supply chain departments. The bulk of his corporate experience was spent in supply chain where he was involved in various projects involving strategy, operations, and human capital development. 

His last 4 years has been spent in the entrepreneurial environment. In this time he served as a  Director of Lwandle Shipping (Pty) Ltd, a start-up shipping company which operated in the oil shipping industry. He also serves as Business and Executive coach to entrepreneurs, executives, and professionals. He provides training and mentoring for the South African Institute of Professional Accountants as a presenter and facilitator for their Project Achievers Program, their Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Seminars, as well as a trainer and mentor for the institutes learnership program with government treasury. 

Zuhayr’s experience provides insight into strategic and operational governance structures which facilitates sustainability and growth for both individuals and organizations.

Ziyaad Davids CA (SA)

Ziyaad Davids received a BBusSci Management Studies: Finance (Hons) degree and a PGDA (Acc Hons) from UCT on a bursary from Deloitte South Africa. Subsequently, he completed his articles, passed his board exams and qualified as a Chartered Accountant CA(SA) at Deloitte Cape Town in 2015. 

He specialised in financial services audits during his tenure as an auditor in Cape Town. He then worked at Ernst and Young in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Upon his return to South Africa he was determined to successfully pursue business opportunities identified within the South African market. He currently serves on the Finance, Audit & Risk Committee at the International Peace College South Africa, where he also volunteers his time with regards to the accounting and financial management of the only Islamic Accredited University in the country. 

He is also a Director of Blackboard Consulting Group Pty Ltd, a new bespoke outfit, specializing in Accounting and Finance Consulting. With a background in accounting and finance and experience in auditing numerous companies in South Africa and abroad, Ziyaad brings fresh young talent to our team of experts.

Shamiel Ahmed

Mr Ahmed is a seasoned businessman with exceptional experience in Business & Trade in Africa. He currently serves as the Head of Elham International Trading Africa, the regional office in Africa for Elham International Trading Global Operations, headquartered in Sydney Australia. The group’s operations span over a spectrum of Trade & Finance across the world.

Mr Ahmed has successfully negotiated and procured G2G commodity trades as well as the financing arrangements for major projects in leading African countries including South Africa,  Nigeria and Ghana.

His experience in Africa and local business markets brings an exceptional advantage to the mobility of our engagements.


Mumtaaz Isaacs

Mrs. Mumtaaz Isaacs hails from Cape Town, South Africa, and has extensive experience abroad. She holds a Bachelors in Arabic as a Second Language with Honors from Selangor International Islamic University College (KUIS) in Malaysia as well as a Diploma in Islamic Studies from the International Peace University of South Africa (IPSA). In addition, during her time abroad, Mrs. Isaacs studied with local Arabic experts and scholars in Egypt and Syria to consolidate her knowledge in the Arabic language.

Mrs. Isaacs is an experienced Arabic to English translator with relevant experience from translating postgraduate (Masters and PhD) thesis’ of Arab students studying at reputable Universities in Malaysia to classical texts and professional Islamic finance literature. She spent three years as a Research Assistant to the Head of Translation & editing at the International Shari’ah Research Academy for Islamic Finance (ISRA) in Malaysia where she was involved in vetting & editing various translated classical and professional texts that was published in International Journals and Publications.

She was also involved in editing the Arabic publication of the Malaysian Islamic Finance Center’s bi-monthly Insights Report on Islamic Finance during her tenure as a Consultant for ISRA Consultancy Sdn Bhd.

Currently, Mrs. Isaacs manages the translation & editing portfolio for I Consult Africa (Pty) Ltd, in South Africa, where she manages a team of native English, Arabic and French speakers to ensure that the company maintains a strong culture of our translation work.
